LGH CT Scanner Room

The new CT Scanner facility at Launceston General Hospital supports continuity of critical imaging services during the replacement of the hospital’s existing scanner, ensuring minimal disruption to patient care.

While spatially simple, the project required the careful integration of complex technical requirements, including radiation shielding within the floor, walls and ceiling, alongside infection control and patient safety considerations. ARTAS worked closely with specialist consultants to retrofit these requirements into the existing hospital environment while maintaining clear and efficient operational flows.

Beyond the clinical necessities, the project sought to improve the experience of both patients and staff during what can be an anxious moment of care. Imagery drawn from Tasmania’s forests, coastline and open skies is incorporated as a full‑height wall treatment and a dynamic ceiling projection, introducing natural colour, light and gentle movement into the space. These considered interventions create a sense of calm and familiarity, transforming a highly technical room into one that feels reassuring and human, and demonstrating how small, targeted design choices can meaningfully enhance healthcare environments.
