Northern Integrated Care Service (NICS) – Clifford Craig Research Institute
Located within the Launceston General Hospital campus, the Clifford Craig Research Institute
forms part of the Northern Integrated Care Services (NICS) building and was delivered within a fully operational healthcare environment. The project required careful staging and decanting to maintain continuity of hospital and community services throughout construction.
The scope involved the adaptive reuse of existing community spaces, converting them into open‑plan offices, meeting rooms and staff amenities. This enabled the subsequent fit‑out of research, clinical and administrative areas to support both visiting researchers and permanent foundation staff. Interior environments were designed to feel calm and welcoming, combining neutral finishes with timber accents and the foundation’s corporate colours to support focus, wellbeing and collaboration.
Reflecting ARTAS’ experience working within complex and highly constrained operational settings, the project was shaped through close coordination with hospital departments to address infection control, access and servicing requirements. The completed facility integrates seamlessly within the broader hospital campus, maintaining continuity of care while providing a flexible and supportive environment for research and collaboration.
