Northern Heart Centre

The Northern Heart Centre is a major new specialist cardiac facility being delivered as part of the Launceston General Hospital Precinct Masterplan to improve heart health outcomes for communities across Northern Tasmania. Located on the Frankland Street side of the hospital, the new building will consolidate cardiac services into a single, dedicated environment designed around patient comfort, clarity and access.

The centre will include a 24‑bed cardiac inpatient unit, two cardiac catheterisation laboratories, and dedicated diagnostic testing and monitoring facilities. Developed in consultation with cardiac health service representatives, the design prioritises strong connections to key hospital services, supporting coordinated and timely care.

Funded through a $120‑million Australian Government investment, the Northern Heart Centre is being designed by ARTAS in collaboration with Billard Leece Partnership, placing people at the centre of planning and design. Completion is expected in 2029.
