Splash Devonport Aquatic and Leisure Centre
Located within the Don Reserve in Devonport, Tasmania, Splash Devonport Aquatic and Leisure Centre adds a 25m indoor pool and a combined leisure, learn to swim and a warm water exercise pool to the existing 50m outdoor pool. Additional new facilities include a gym, program rooms, multipurpose room, swim club rooms, west and dry change facilities, reception, retail, café and administration areas.
Designed by ARTAS in collaboration with dwp, the design creates a genuinely community focused facility, which is contextual to the site and can be utilised all year round. The design is influenced by the adjacent historical Don River Railway as well as the nearby Sawdust Bridge and Mersey Bluff Lighthouse. The curvilinear roofs are split, defining two pavilions while relating together as one from. The main pool hall creates a large open space, connecting the indoor and outdoor pools while the sweeping gym and entry roof opens the building to the bushland beyond.
