North West Mental Health Precinct
The North West Mental Health Precinct is a new, purpose‑built facility being delivered at the North West Regional Hospital to support improved mental health care for communities across Tasmania’s North West. Developed as part of Stage One of the North West Hospitals Masterplan, the precinct is designed to provide safe, accessible and recovery‑focused care in a contemporary, therapeutic setting.
The precinct will include a 22‑bed mental health inpatient unit to replace the existing Spencer Clinic. The design supports modern models of care, incorporating clear circulation, access to natural light, and healing gardens that enable patients, staff and visitors to connect with outdoor environments. Convenient access, parking and integration with the wider hospital precinct are central to the planning approach.
Funded through a $40‑million Tasmanian Government investment, the North West Mental Health Precinct is being designed by ARTAS in collaboration with Billard Leece Partnership, with construction expected to commence in late 2026, subject to approvals.
