Northern Mental Health Precinct
The Northern Mental Health Precinct is a new, purpose‑built facility being delivered to support improved mental health outcomes for communities across Northern Tasmania. Located opposite the Launceston General Hospital, the precinct forms part of Stage Two of the LGH Masterplan and is designed to provide timely, accessible and supportive care in a contemporary, non‑institutional setting.
The precinct will include a 30‑bed mental health inpatient unit replacing the existing Northside Unit, alongside a Recovery College and Safe Haven. Spaces are designed to support immediate care, brief interventions and recovery, with a strong emphasis on dignity, safety and wellbeing. Dedicated car parking and a pedestrian link will connect the precinct directly to the hospital.
Funded through a $90‑million Tasmanian Government investment, the Northern Mental Health Precinct is being designed by ARTAS in collaboration with Billard Leece Partnership, with construction expected to commence in 2026, subject to approvals
