St Giles Launceston
Completed in 2015, this major redevelopment of St Giles Launceston provided for a significant expansion of services in Northern Tasmania for the children’s disability therapy and support provider.
Designed specifically to deliver family centred therapies to clients from birth to 18, the centre provides facilities suited to a variety of allied health and family support professionals including physiotherapists, psychologists, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and visiting paediatric specialists.
The major upgrade includes a range of new facilities, over two levels, such as: group and individual consultation and observation rooms, a physiotherapy gym, learning bathroom and kitchen, sensory room, feeding clinic and both play and sensory gardens. Arranged around an ‘internal street’ – complete with trees and clouds – the design incorporates bold colours and nature imagery to bring a sense of ‘play’ into what might otherwise be an overwhelming clinical environment.
ARTAS worked closely with St Giles to create a calming and supportive environment for their clients, including children and teens with severe disabilities such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, down syndrome and autism.
