AMC AUV Facility

‘The new Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) facility at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston sees the redevelopment of an existing storage shed into a contemporary research facility unique within Australia, to house the Southern Ocean Gateway Research Project.

The project scope included new offices, staff amenities and lab/workshop spaces to facilitate maintenance and programming to the AUVs – a fleet of underwater robots used to survey and collect scientific data beneath the Antarctic sea-ice.

ARTAS worked closely with the AMC to allow for the adaptive re-use of the existing building, ensuring the detailed requirements of both the College and the operational requirements of research staff were met.

The development of this new facility will allow the AMC to further develop the technology and data collection techniques and will position the College as a world leader in underwater robotic technologies.’
