East Launceston Primary, New Kindergarten

East Launceston Primary School is a large inner city primary school with an increasing enrolment demand. ARTAS was engaged as the lead consultant for the major redevelopment to bring the school facilities in to line with the modern and contemporary teaching practices and to ensure the school continues to provide students with outstanding learning outcomes. The proposal was to construct a new kindergarten building and associated infrastructure for the East Launceston primary School on the western side of Oxford St, East Launceston. The building is located between the existing pavilion and the tennis courts.

The purpose of the development was to provide dedicated quality learning spaces and reduce congestion on the Abbott St site. As at the time there were students located in inappropriate learning spaces – i.e. library and multipurpose area – it was proposed to vacate these areas and recover the original intent of usage.

The Kinder and Early learning spaces are an inspiring and contemporary take on a traditional Early Learning classroom environment. Light filled, connective and featuring bespoke Interior design solutions that focus on form, texture and clever detailing to enhance the experience of students and empower educators.

Minor works were also completed on the eastern side of Oxford St within the school grounds. An existing sealed ball court area off Abbott St was levelled and resurfaced with a low retaining wall and integrated seating installed. A new lift and ramp on the southern entrance to the library to provide compliant access to the building and a lift located on the south west corner of the library complete the works.
